Welcome back to ERO Insider, and welcome to 2024! We hope the holidays were restful and happy and that 2024 brings joy and happiness to you all. Meanwhile, we’ve got a fresh batch of stories from the world of electric reliability, so pull up a chair, and let’s see what the team’s been up to this week!
Arctic air is on the way to North America this weekend, and NERC warned grid stakeholders they need to take whatever measures they can to prepare. Holden Mann has more on the predictions from the National Weather Service and the ERO’s recommendations. (See NERC Urges Preparedness Ahead of Winter Storms.)
The Department of Energy announced it is willing to invest up to $70 million in technologies to improve grid resilience in the face of natural disasters cyber and physical threats. Follow the link to see who’s eligible for investment, and how DOE hopes they’ll use the funds. (See DOE Planning up to $70M in Energy Resilience Investments.)
NERC’s last Notice of Penalty for 2023 laid out a pattern of reliability standard violations at multiple renewable energy facilities managed by Duke Energy. Click through for a rundown of the issues that led to a $40,000 penalty against the utility. (See SERC, Duke Agree to $40K Penalty for Reliability Violations.)
Thanks again for joining us! It’s good to be back, and we can’t wait to tackle another exciting year in the ERO Enterprise and beyond. As always, keep checking back throughout the week, and we’ll have another roundup next Friday. Have a great week!
