Happy New Year! We’re back from our break, and we were busy right away again with offshore wind news, as Equinor and bp announced that they were canceling their contract with NYSERDA for Empire Wind 2. John Cropley covered that story, as well as a filing with the SEC by Eversource, which revealed the company will take a fourth-quarter impairment of up to $1.6 billion because of its OSW troubles. There was some good news in the sector though, with Jon Lamson reporting that Vineyard Wind 1 off Massachusetts had begun generating power.

John also wrote about the draft programmatic environmental impact statement that BOEM will publish this week that will assess six potential projects in the New York Bight in an effort to improve efficiency and smooth the path toward the Biden administration’s goal of 30 GW of OSW installed by 2030. And he covered Delaware’s newly proposed OSW procurement strategy.

Also don’t miss John’s preview of what’s next for New York this year, as well as Hugh Morley’s and John Stang’s for New Jersey and Washington state, respectively. And K Kaufmann wrote a comprehensive report on Maryland’s Climate Pollution Reduction Plan, which will face budget headwinds this year.

Here’s what else we published this past week:

See you next week!
