The Golden Globes were last night, a reminder that a new year also means it’s the start of awards season, mainly for movies and television. I don’t place any importance on what wins annual awards, but I do very much enjoy watching the horse race for them: the discourse over the nominations and categories, and the outrage over the snubs and undeserving wins. I don’t even watch the ceremonies, which means I do miss the occasional slap in the face.
Two parts of that discourse are predictions of what will be nominated and win, and what should be nominated and win. The latter is much more interesting to me, as it reveals a person’s taste. For example, I think “Godzilla Minus One” deserves a nomination for Best Picture at the Oscars, but that film is completely absent from the picks of the critics over at The New York Times ... though at least one of them believes Keanu Reeves deserves a Best Actor nod for “John Wick Chapter 4.” So maybe they just haven’t seen Godzilla yet?
What, or whom, do you think should be nominated for Oscars? Think about it, and then compare your list with what is announced Jan. 23 and see how you did. Remember, it’s just for fun and doesn’t mean very much. Kind of like the College Football Championship tonight.
But all joking aside, go see Godzilla after you read today’s articles from RTO Insider.
Have a great week!
