Welcome back to another week in the decarbonization of land, buildings and industry.

NetZero Insider’s Hugh Morley takes a look at three legislative measures that could alter the landscape in New Jersey: Lawmakers last week gave final passage to bill directing study of geothermal heat pump systems, promoting electric vehicle charger installation for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, and requiring clarification of the status of a residential solar system — whether it is owned or leased — when a house is sold.

Other media have been writing about related issues:

  • Electrek has an update on efforts to develop heat pumps that work well in sub-zero temperatures; while pv Magazine says more awareness of heat pump capabilities and incentives could drive adoption. Canary Media  reports on a new study that suggests decarbonization programs should focus on reducing upfront costs and emphasizing health, comfort and aesthetic benefits.

  • pv Magazine also looks at a program in Georgia that seeks to provide low-income households with better access to money-saving, emissions-reducing solar technology.

  • A World Economic Forum and PwC report sets out a host of energy efficiency actions it claims are 'doable today, at attractive returns with no need for new technology, saying business action on energy efficiency could save $2 trillion a year.
