Snow is almost like clay. Given the right makeup, snow can be shaped into almost anything you can think of. And it is essentially an unlimited resource while it’s cold enough, so there is no bound to the scale of the sculpture. 

With that said, kudos to Carlos Maldonado in Iowa for not going the traditional snowman route and instead building a 20-foot-long, 5.5-foot-high Great White shark out of his region’s snowfall. The masterpiece took more than four hours to build and then more than another hour to paint. While it turned out great, the amount of work needed pretty much negated any idea of an “off day.” 

The only problem with doing a great job: now you are expected to do it again. And with the next things on Maldonado’s snow-sculpting-list being an octopus or a banana split … let’s hope he keeps that same energy. Or even has that same energy.
