Hello from ERO Insider, coming at you after another busy week in the world of electric reliability!
Folks, we all know that special someone who just never receives the recognition they deserve for all their hard work. It’s important to let those friends know they’re needed. That’s why we’re so grateful that today, Jan. 26, is Dental Drill Appreciation Day. Yes, dental drills, those humble heroes. Who doesn’t have a kind word for dental drills?
OK, OK, in all seriousness, when you look up how dental work was done for centuries, it is a lot easier to appreciate modern dental drills, along with the ongoing work to make procedures safer and more comfortable. We’ll probably never look forward to going to the dentist though.
On with the email! First up this week, NERC’s latest set of cold weather standards got a firm endorsement from industry when their third ballot round ended this week. Holden Mann’s got more on the next steps for the standard and why some respondents are still not satisfied. (See Industry Approves New Cold Weather Standard in Final Vote.)
NERC’s Board of Trustees is set to vote on changes to the ERO’s Rules of Procedure that will allow for the registration of more inverter-based resources. Follow the link to see how the updates are meant to satisfy a FERC order. (See NERC Board to Vote on Rule Changes for IBRs.)
The ERO met another FERC deadline last week with a report on the challenges of implementing internal network security monitoring on the power grid. Click through for more on the report’s findings on the proposal for extending cybersecurity protections to lower-impact facilities. (See NERC Recommends Phased Approach to INSM.)
Thanks again for joining us! We’ll be on the job all next week to bring you the news you need from the ERO Enterprise and beyond, so keep checking back for the latest. And of course we’ll be back again next Friday with another roundup of anything you missed. Until then, have a great week!
