Everyone has heard or seen stories of people bring wrongfully detained or imprisoned. Such a case recently resolved itself in India, with a suspect being released after eight months in detention. 

Indian police turned over a pigeon to an animal society after it was determined the bird was not a Chinese spy. The pigeon was captured near a Mumbai port in May after it was found with rings tied to its legs carrying words that “looked Chinese.” I guess that’s enough probable cause to arrest nowadays. It turns out the pigeon was a racing bird from Taiwan that had escaped and made its way to India. 

India does not seem to be a great place to be a pigeon, as the story alludes to two other fowl being detained in recent years. Is there such a thing as racial animal profiling?
