Runaway trains are no laughing matter, and the sight of one gives me an odd, eerie feeling.
A runaway freight train in northern India traveled some 45 miles between the Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab states without a driver last weekend before it was finally stopped. The train took off and rolled for about 90 minutes after a crew change at a station in Jammu and has since led to four suspensions and a “high-level” investigation. Here are my high-level thoughts: Someone forgot to pull the emergency brake.
This video showing the train barreling through a stop at more than 40 mph is rather startling. Still, it is great to know none of the estimated 1,000 passengers were hurt ... although part of me wonders if they even knew what was going on. I sure hope not.
