Feb. 29, 2024

Today is Feb. 29 – the day added to our calendars every four years to signify a Leap Year. So, with that, happy Leap Year Day … or something. 

The day is added to the end of February to account for the Earth’s revolution around the Sun being 365.24 days and not a perfect 365. Thus, one more day every four years. We can thank Pope Gregory XIII and his Gregorian Calendar for that, and for choosing February because it was considered “unlucky.” (The weather isn’t all that great, either). 

About 5 million people worldwide with a Feb. 29 birthday, according to the History Channel, including my mother-in-law. She is celebrating her 18th birthday, or at least that is what I am going to try to score some points with.
