Didn’t anyone teach these space agencies about cleaning up after themselves? | Shutterstock

Not too long ago, I detailed all the space junk that is orbiting Earth. While there is no uniform solution to the problem, one company has given it a shot.
Astroscale, a private company “dedicated to on-orbit servicing,” launched a spacecraft from New Zealand last week with the goal of reaching and characterizing a large piece of space junk. Its first step will be to show it can find, approach and characterize a piece of space junk and then hold itself at a fixed distance from the target. If the mission is successful, it could be a way for companies to eventually locate their junk and adjust it so it burns up in our atmosphere. It also could be a way to service satellites already in orbit.
It's about time someone thought about cleaning up near-orbit space, because as we try to venture farther and farther from our planet, navigating all the junk will continue to be an issue.
Now, RTO Insider caught and characterized this energy news for you today.
From everyone at RTO Insider, thanks for reading and enjoy the rest of your day!
