California has experienced three superblooms since 2017 and is expecting yet another this spring.
A superbloom is a rare phenomenon in the U.S. Southwest in which seeds that have lain dormant germinate and blossom at around the same time. Blooms tend to occur following an unusually wet rainy season when heavy rain transforms the land into a floral factory. The blooms get so massive they can even be seen from space. Talk about still being picturesque from 300 miles away.
The state’s Department of Parks and Recreation is understandably asking visitors to “take photos, not flowers.” Which is a good decision either way, considering photos last forever.
