Hello again from ERO Insider! We hope you’re having a good Friday (along with a Good Friday for those who celebrate), and we’re looking forward to the weekend, but first let’s review the stories our intrepid correspondents have dug up this week.
The Electric Power Supply Association held its Competitive Power Summit in D.C. this week, and James Downing was on the scene to hear what grid operators say are the biggest challenges on the way to net-zero emissions. Follow the link for his report on the conversations he heard at the event, including thoughts from NERC CEO Jim Robb on the role of policy in electric reliability. (See Bumps on the Road to Net Zero Highlighted at EPSA Summit.)
SERC Reliability also hit the road this week, heading to Nashville for its Annual Members Meeting and quarterly Board of Directors meeting. Holden Mann brings you a look at the meetings that brought the regional entity new board members and saw its draft 2025 budget approved, along with some compliments from FERC Chair Willie Phillips. (See SERC Board of Directors/Members Meeting Briefs: March 27, 2024.)
The ISO/RTO Council had more than a few harsh words about NERC’s proposed cold-weather reliability standard, which FERC is currently considering for approval. Click through for details of their criticism and why they say the standard is so flawed that the commission shouldn’t even consider approving it until it’s sent back to NERC for rewrites. (See IRC Urges FERC to Remand NERC Cold Weather Standard.)
Thanks again for joining us today! We’ll be following the top stories from the ERO Enterprise and beyond throughout next week, including the release of NERC’s report on last year’s GridEx VII security exercise, so keep checking back for the latest news. We’ll also catch you next Friday with another email, of course. Until then, stay safe and have a great week!
