Another day, another medical breakthrough.
On March 16, doctors at Massachusetts General Hospital achieved a “first” when they successfully transplanted a genetically edited pig kidney into a 62-year-old man with kidney disease. The kidney, which was edited using CRISPR-Cas9 technology to remove harmful pig genes and add others to improve compatibility with humans, contained 69 “edits” and took four hours to transplant. Chalk up a major victory for xenotransplantation.
A doctor later called the patient a “beacon of hope” for others suffering with kidney disease. Is it me, or is it somewhat ironic that he chose a word one letter off from the word “bacon?” Nah, it’s probably just me.
Now, RTO Insider transplanted energy news into this email.
From everyone at RTO Insider, thanks for reading and enjoy the rest of your day!
