You have to be quick on your feet if you want to be a waiter or waitress. However, attendants working in Paris gave that sentiment a new meaning this past weekend.

Two hundred of the city’s café workers took part in the Course des Garçons de Café on Sunday — a 1.2-mile race through the streets dressed in their work attire while carrying a croissant, a glass of water and a coffee cup. As is standard procedure for most cafés and restaurants, no running was allowed. Furthermore, any spillage or alteration to the composition of the tray meant points would be deducted from their score … and their tip.

Pauline Van Wymeersch and Samy Lamrous were crowned the fastest woman and man, respectively, and completed the course in less than 14 minutes. That’s not the fastest coffee in the world, but given they had to transverse more than a mile to deliver it, I’ll consider it a job well done.
