The Biden administration last week released a plan to decarbonize the country’s building sector, which it says could reduce emissions in the sector by 65% by 2035 and 90% by 2050. 

That was among the actions by the administration that James Downing and K Kaufmann covered this past week. DOE finalized energy efficiency standards for distribution transformers, and EPA announced it had selected eight organizations to receive $20 billion in grants from its Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund for clean energy projects. 

K also covered local politics. The D.C. Council approved a bill aimed at electrifying 30,000 low-income homes across the district by 2040, but a fight is brewing over the mayor’s budget. And Monday night was the end of Maryland’s legislative session, and K rounded up all the energy-related bills passed by the deadline.
