Ever imagine what a prehistoric rest stop might have looked like? No? Well, I am going to tell you anyway because I find it interesting.
Recent findings in a northwestern Saudi Arabia lava tube that stretches for nearly 5,000 feet found that it served as a resting stop for humans for nearly 7,000 years. Rock art, skeletal remains and faunal records revealed numerous phases of human occupation spanning from the Neolithic through to the Chalcolithic/Bronze Age. Because of this, archaeologists believe the tube was used as a resting stop for humans and livestock as they traveled between oases.
The protection and insulation the cave provided are great and all, but I can only imagine what that human/animal bathroom situation was like. I doubt the ventilation system was top notch.
