If you want to stop tourists from coming to your area, just build a big screen to block whatever it is they came to see.

That is the approach the Japanese town of Fujikawaguchiko is taking regarding visitors coming to see Mount Fuji. The town recently began building a large black screen on a stretch of sidewalk to block the view of the mountain because of “misbehaving foreign tourists.” The neighborhood became a popular spot a few years ago after a photo showed Mount Fuji “sitting on top” of a convenience store. A local café owner complained tourists are “littering, crossing the road with busy traffic, ignoring traffic lights and trespassing into private properties.”

I’m not sure how much the screen is going to deter tourists, as I assume they can just walk behind it and take another picture. We Americans have some experience with certain obstructions being simply circumnavigated
