Welcome to another Friday newsletter from ERO Insider, your source for the latest developments from the world of electric reliability! How did you get to work today? If you rode a bike, then congratulations — you celebrated (possibly unknowingly) National Bike to Work Day! Why not reward yourself by celebrating National Cherry Cobbler Day? We’ll leave it to you to figure out how. And yes, those are both real holidays. Not sure whose idea it was to put them in May, but who are we to nitpick a chance for cherry cobbler?
On to the news, beginning with a warning from NERC about reliability challenges coming this summer. James Downing was there for the release of the ERO’s Summer Reliability Assessment this week, and he’s got a closer look at the biggest concerns of NERC’s staff as the weather heats up. (See NERC Summer Assessment Sees Some Risk in Extreme Heat Waves.)
NERC’s Standards Committee met this week as well and took action on several standards projects aimed at addressing the risks of inverter-based resources such as wind and solar plants. Follow the link for a report on the meeting from Holden Mann, and why these projects are a high priority for the ERO. (See NERC Standards Committee Moves Forward on IBR Projects.)
Devin Leith-Yessian is up next with a report from PJM’s Annual Meeting last week, where panelists discussed the evolving security and climate risks facing the electric grid. Click through to see what the speakers felt were the industry’s biggest challenges, along with some of the opportunities to build resilience. (See PJM General Session Covers Risk Management, Innovation.)
Thanks again for starting your weekend with us! We’ll be back next Friday with a look at what’s shaping up to be another busy week in the ERO Enterprise and beyond. Until then, keep checking the website for our latest updates, and have a great week!
