Wildlife photographers must be dedicated to their job. Case in point: Josh Aitchison.

Aitchison recently spent three weeks in a tree in the Kasanka National Park in Zambia to film 10 million straw-colored fruit bats gather in one spot as part of their migration. The aerial aggregation is the culmination of what is considered the largest mammal migration in the world. The bats spend most of day hanging out in trees before taking flight in unison at dusk to feed. It is a sight to behold, as I witnessed something similar at Texas’ Bamberger Ranch Preserve in 2018. The number of bats was just unfathomable.

That said, I only had to stand in one spot for five minutes, not live in a tree for nearly a month. You gotta do what you gotta do to get the shot though, right?
