It is going to be a great next two weeks for sports fans as the NBA Finals and Stanley Cup Finals begin tonight and Saturday, respectively.
The NBA Finals boast two of the best duos in the league: the Dallas Mavericks’ Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, and the Boston Celtics’ Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. The Celtics have reached the finals and conference finals each of the last two years (and came up short), while the Mavs were in the conference finals two years ago before missing the playoffs entirely last year. The old adage in the NBA is that a team has to suffer tough losses before winning it all … which would align with the Celtics finally getting it done this year. Just don’t expect Luka to go quietly.
Meanwhile, the Stanley Cup pits a great overall team in the Florida Panthers against arguably the greatest tandem in hockey today. What isn’t up for argument is the fact that the Oilers’ Connor McDavid is the best player in the league and already one of the most skilled players of all time. The Panthers lost 4-1 to the Vegas Golden Knights in the cup last year (see above about losing before winning), so the stage won’t be too big for them. There is nothing like watching a great team take on a great player(s) for the title, so if you aren’t into playoff hockey (what’s wrong with you?), this would be a great time to start watching.
