Happy Friday from all of us at ERO Insider, your source for the latest on the world of electric reliability! Our intrepid reporters have been hard at work as usual this week, so let’s dive right in for a look at their work.
Meeting in Seattle this week, NERC’s Standards Committee sparred over the details of an ongoing cybersecurity project. Join Holden Mann inside for more on their decision, and on the other actions coming out of that meeting. (See NERC Committee Seeks Focus in Busy Standards Projects.)
NERC’s Reliability and Security Technical Committee also met in Seattle, where they heard an update on the ongoing Interregional Transfer Capability Study that Congress ordered last year. Click through to hear how the study is progressing and the steps the team is taking to meet their December deadline. (See NERC: ITCS to Become “Roadmap” for Grid Studies.)
After a long debate, ERCOT’s stakeholders and staff have agreed to impose voltage ride-through requirements on inverter-based resources. Tom Kleckner has a full report on the rule change that the Technical Advisory Committee endorsed last week, and the concerns that stakeholders have expressed over the last year. (See ERCOT TAC Endorses Rule for Inverter-based Resources.)
Not all ERCOT stakeholders are happy with the new rule, and a group of renewable energy developers say they still plan to argue against it when it goes before the Board of Directors. Click through for a look at the opposition. (See Renewable Developers Oppose Proposed ERCOT IBR Rule.)
Thanks again for joining us! We’ll be off next Wednesday for the Juneteenth holiday, but we’ll still be around the rest of the week to bring you all the news you need from the ERO Enterprise and beyond! Have a great weekend and stay safe!
