DTE Energy said Monday that it will build a large battery energy storage system on the site of a coal-fired plant it is demolishing near Detroit. John Cropley covered the announcement, which included a ceremonial groundbreaking that Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer attended.

The day after, Bill Gates’ TerraPower held its own groundbreaking ceremony for its Natrium demonstration project in Wyoming, making it the first advanced nuclear reactor to enter construction. James Downing covered that, along with a Reuters webinar that featured Constellation Energy CEO Joseph Dominguez, who spoke about the future of the company’s nuclear fleet. 

And the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Friday issued its final CAFE standards for passenger cars and light- and heavy-duty pickups for model years 2027 to 2031, K Kaufmann reported.
