This isn’t what the glider had in mind when he heard “take a flight.” | Shutterstock

Airplanes get delayed for all kinds of reasons. However, I don’t think I’ve ever heard one get postponed for this next reason. But I guess there is always a first time for everything, right?

A tiny sugar glider — a nocturnal animal resembling a flying squirrel — halted a China Eastern Airlines flight on Monday after it got loose in the cabin and forced passengers to disembark. The ordeal delayed the flight for more than an hour. Police said the glider’s owner was taken into custody, so in the end there was some form of justice for all the affected passengers.

Medical emergencies or plane defects are understandable reasons for delaying a flight. It is inconvenient, but you understand stuff happens. A loose flying squirrel though … that would have me looking for the closest airport lounge, if you know what I mean.
