NetZero Insider’s transportation decarbonization news for this week featured coverage of the California Energy Commission’s push to bring more zero-emission vehicle infrastructure to disadvantages communities.

While the states’ Clean Transportation Program is required to allocate a least half of the funds to disadvantaged communities, commission members say many communities still lack the resources to unlock funding, and that low-income rural communities are frequently overlooked, Ayla Burnett reports.

The CEC also announced that about a quarter of all new cars sold in the state over the first three months of this year were electric vehicles, a record pace of adoption in the state.

In San Fransisco, the city announced a new curbside charging program intended to reduce charging barriers for apartment residents. The city is hoping to install 1,700 public chargers by 2030.

On the opposite coast, Maine is on course to open 17 new high-speed charging stations in high-demand areas. The charging stations will cost about $8.6 million, with the bulk of the money coming from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program, which was created by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

As charging infrastructure spreads across the country, the Argonne National Laboratory is leading a task force focused on improving charging reliability and user experience. The group is working to create standards for defining and testing charger inoperability, Daily Energy Insider reports

In other electric vehicle industry news:

  • Electric vehicle company Fisker filed for bankruptcy, citing “macroeconomic headwinds,” slowing demand and quality issues.

  • United Auto Workers members at a recently unionized General Motors battery cell production plant will get a raise after approving a new contract that will increase wages to $35/hour.

  • Decreasing demand for the Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup has pushed back the start of full production at a new factory in West Tennessee

All that and more in this week’s Intelligence Report:
