Happy Friday from ERO Insider! It’s summertime, the livin’ is easy, and our cup runneth over with public holidays. U.S. readers had Juneteenth last week, and Independence Day is coming up next Thursday, while those of you north of the border can look forward to Canada Day on Monday. Guess we need some days off when the weather’s so hot. But even in the dog days of summer, you can count on our fearless correspondents finding the news you need from the world of electric reliability!
FERC held its open meeting yesterday, and while outgoing Commissioner Allison Clements fittingly received the lion’s share of attention, reliability matters got a big focus as well. Join Holden Mann for a look at the commission’s decision approving NERC’s latest cold weather standard, and why the ERO’s work still isn’t quite finished. (See FERC Orders Further Cold Weather Standard Modifications.)
Commissioners also approved proposed changes to NERC’s Rules of Procedure at yesterday’s meeting, paving the way for the ERO to begin registering owners of inverter-based resources. Click through for more on that decision, as well as why FERC dropped a proposal to shorten the time frame for NERC’s performance assessments. (See FERC Accepts NERC ROP Changes, Drops Assessment Proposal.)
Another new reliability standard arrived on FERC’s desk this week, and while the commission hasn’t given its approval yet, the new measure is intended to plug what it has called a major reliability gap. Join us inside for a rundown of the proposal to require security monitoring behind utility firewalls. (See NERC Submits INSM Standard for FERC Approval.)
Thanks again for joining us this Friday! If you’re planning to celebrate next week, we hope you have a happy, safe and fun holiday, and we’ll be here all week to bring you the latest from the ERO Enterprise and beyond. Have a great week!
