The Lucky Grail | Yoshiharu Watanabe

The lawn and field in front of my house are littered with clover, so every now and then my daughter and I spend some time looking for the elusive four-leafers. While we have gotten lucky twice over the last year, our good fortune is not even close to that of Yoshiharu Watanabe ... even though he might be cheating the system.

Yoshiharu, who has been cross-pollinating clovers for more than a decade, produced a 63-leaf clover, which is perhaps the luckiest thing on the planet. After supposedly finding a 20-leaf clover in his man-made garden, Yoshiharu got the idea to hand pollinate the larger ones. From there he grew 49- and 55-leafers before recently spawning the record-breaking 63. 

Is Yoshiharu cheating? Is he just securing and expediting a natural process? I can understand both. Either way, I now see what Harvey Dent was trying to tell us all those years ago.
