Offshore wind in the U.S. continues to move along, albeit in fits and starts. 

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management yesterday gave the go-ahead to New Jersey’s foremost offshore wind project, the 1,510-MW Atlantic Shores.

And last week, BOEM announced it will hold an auction next month for two lease areas off the coast of Virginia, east of Virginia Beach. 

But the other side of the country, the California Energy Commission postponed a vote on a long-awaited strategic plan for offshore wind development. That was because many members of the public asked for more time to review the hefty document, which was released only less than 24 hours before the commission’s scheduled meeting. 

Meanwhile, bp said it is still evaluating its options for Beacon Wind, the offshore wind plan it withdrew from New York’s renewable development queue early this year.
