Even James Bond can’t stop this space station from plummeting into the ocean. | Midjourney

In something that would make for a great James Bond movie, plans to crash the International Space Station into the ocean have become public.
NASA revealed last week it contracted SpaceX to develop a “U.S. Deorbit Vehicle” that will help deorbit the space station at the end of its life in 2030. The agency noted the stress on core structures and the eventual need for commercial space in low orbit as reasons for the necessary “decommissioning” ... or what I would like to call “the ultimate ‘MythBusters’ experiment.” What can I say? Boys with toys love to crash things.
In actuality, both the vehicle and space station are expected to break up as part of the re-entry process, so sadly it won’t look like this. We would have needed Will Smith for that.
