Happy Friday from ERO Insider! Our intrepid correspondents have been hard at work finding the news you can use from around the world of electric reliability, so let’s take a look and see what they’ve got for us.
Utilities may soon have a lot more clarity on how they can use new technologies on the grid under a set of reliability standards NERC submitted to FERC this week. Join Holden Mann inside to see how the new rules change the landscape around virtualization technology and may move grid cybersecurity forward. (See NERC Sends Virtualization Standards to FERC.)
NERC also weighed in last week on the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s proposed regulation about reporting cybersecurity incidents. Click through to read why the ERO and its stakeholders want the agency to think about how its rules might overlap with those that already exist. (See ERO Comments on CISA Reporting Proposal.)
Dominion Energy and the Long Island Power Authority were hit with penalties totaling nearly $250,000 in a pair of settlement recently approved by FERC for violating NERC reliability standards. Follow the link for more on the issues one utility reported at its nuclear plants, and the other at its transmission facilities. (See FERC Approves $246K in Reliability Standards Penalties.)
Thanks again for sharing your Friday morning with us! Make sure to check back throughout the week for more key stories from the ERO Enterprise and beyond, and of course we’ll see you again next Friday with another fabulous weekly newsletter. Until then, stay safe and have a great week!
