The MLB All-Star break is upon us, signifying the midpoint of the season (actually 60%, but who’s counting). And since it’s been a while since I’ve gloated about the Phillies, I figured now was a good time.
The Phils boast the league’s best record at 62-34, as well as the most all-stars with eight. The two kind of go hand-in-hand, but it’s still a way of showing what kind of season they are having — which is arguably the best in franchise history. But, as we all know, it’s all about closing the deal and winning the championship. In that sense, while I am certainly confident and would rather be the league’s best team than not, the dynamic has changed from the last two years. We are no longer the hunter. We are the hunted. I don’t see that affecting this team, which seems like it is on a mission following its World Series and NLCS failures.
On a side note, I finally got my first ball after 41 years of baseball games on Saturday. And we won … again. Now that’s how you wrap up the first half of the season! (Sunday's blowout loss notwithstanding).
