John Cropley was all over all the offshore wind news that came out this past week for NetZero Insider.

BOEM last week canceled the second Gulf of Mexico offshore wind auction, saying that just one company expressed interest in the four lease areas being offered. But the agency also announced that Hecate Energy had requested to lease two different areas southeast of Texas totaling 142,000 acres. BOEM is issuing a request for competitive interest for those. 

Then on Monday, BOEM said it had completed its environmental review of the US Wind project off the Maryland coast and will post its final EIS this Friday. The project would be the 10th approved in U.S. waters, and Maryland’s first. 

And it’s Q2 earnings season, but GE Vernova also told financial analysts last week about a manufacturing defect that caused the Vineyard Wind 1 blade failure on July 13. 

John also wrote about a recent NREL report that offers insights on transmission infrastructure needs and planning challenges for future offshore wind development in the Gulf of Mexico.
