Our story today comes out of the historic Omni Homestead Resort. I’m sure at least some of you reading this have been there, as I believe MACRUC has held more than a few conferences there. Did any of you get a chance to play golf on the resort’s courses? If so, you may have been near an artifact and not even have known it.

The appropriately named Old Course dates back to 1892 and is lined with some equally old trees, but occasionally they do fall or die, requiring them to be cleared. During one such routine clearing last week, workers discovered two golf balls, one of which the golf director at the resort said appears to be around 100 years old

The piece of tree the ball is stuck to has been in the director’s office since the discovery; it’s lodged in there good, and will take an expert to remove and clear of sap, dirt and bark. But based on the pattern of the ball, it appears to date back to at least 1930.

Have a great week!
