Happy Friday from ERO Insider, your source for the latest news from the ever-changing world of electric reliability! It’s been another busy week for our correspondents, so let’s check out their work!
Holden Mann was in Vancouver for the quarterly meetings of NERC’s Board of Trustees and Member Representatives Committee, and it was an active week to say the least. Click through for some of the highlights of the meetings, including the board’s first use of its special authority to push a much delayed reliability standard toward approval, and the acceptance of next year’s business plan and budget. (See NERC Board of Trustees/MRC Briefs: Aug. 15, 2024.)
NERC’s board and MRC also got a look at last month’s CrowdStrike outage and its lessons for the nation’s cybersecurity personnel. While the grid suffered no disruption from the incident, NERC staff warned they may not be so lucky in the future. (See No Grid Impacts from CrowdStrike Outage, NERC Says.)
California utilities told a California Public Utilities Commission workshop last week that this year’s heat and active fire season could lead to more public safety power shutoffs. Ayla Burnett has more on the utilities’ concerns and what they say they’re doing about the problem. (See Early Heat, Wildfires Signal Increase in California PSPS Events.)
That’s all for today, but we’ll be here all next week with more stories from the ERO Enterprise and beyond, and we’ll be back next Friday with another weekly wrap up. Until then, have a great week!
