Stephen Curry just had one of the most memorable stretches in Olympic history when he made 17 three-pointers over the course of two games to basically win us the men’s basketball gold medal. But, regardless of all that, he has nothing on Ryan Martin.
Martin, a former Mr. Maine Basketball and current Lake Region boys head coach, recently broke the Guinness World Record (unofficially) for three-pointers made in an hour with 1,134. Martin bested the previous record of 1,077 with about four minutes to go — meaning he went on to sink 57 more in the last 240 seconds to push the record even further.
People don’t understand the toll that hoisting up 1,500 consecutive shots can take on the body. Heck, my elbow is sore after a game of darts nowadays. I can only imagine what Martin, an all-state player and active coach, was feeling when he finished. And from the looks if it, not that great. But you know what they say … shooters shoot!
