Happy Friday from ERO Insider, your source for the latest news from the world of electric reliability! Our correspondents have been hard at work as usual ahead of the Labor Day weekend to track down the week’s stories, so let’s take a look at their work!
NERC released the first installment of the Interregional Transfer Capability Study this week, after months of work aimed at meeting the December deadline set last year by Congress. Join Holden Mann inside to learn about the first phase of the report, which focuses on current transfer capabilities and found that capacity varies considerably from region to region and season to season. (See NERC Examines Transfer Capability in Draft ITCS Installment.)
In another report released this week, FERC notified entities of several areas where they can improve their approach to cybersecurity and compliance with NERC’s Critical Infrastructure Protection standards. Click through for a look at the annual report and its insights. (See FERC Report Identifies CIP Audit Lessons Learned.)
A proposed reliability standard that would set requirements for registered entities’ preparations for extreme temperatures has again failed to pass an industry ballot, after making no headway from the previous ballot round. We’ve got more details on the feedback from industry stakeholders and where the standard drafting team could go from here, behind the link. (See Cold Weather Standard Fails Second Ballot.)
Thanks again for joining us this week! We’ll be observing the holiday on Monday, but don’t forget to check back throughout the week for more developments in the ERO Enterprise and beyond — including the upcoming technical conference focused on breaking the impasse over NERC’s proposed standard on inverter-based resources. Until then, stay safe and have a great week!
