Sports writer and reporter Tim Kurkjian likes to say baseball is the one sport where you can see something for the first time any given night. That exact sentiment will ring true tonight.
On June 26, a game between the Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox was suspended after an inning and a half because of severe weather and was rescheduled for Aug. 26. Danny Jansen, a seven-year pro, started at catcher for Toronto that night. About a month later, Jansen was traded to the Red Sox; he is now set to become the first player ever to play for both teams in the same game. Other players have been traded to the team they were playing that day — arriving to the stadium with one team only to start playing with the other — but none in the middle of a game.
It will be interesting to see if Jansen provides any type of winning play for the Sox, who are still alive in the Wild Card race. (The Jays are currently in last place in the AL East.) Either way, it will be a game for the history books.
Now, see what energy history RTO Insider recorded in its annals today.
