Candid wildlife photos are some of the best photography can provide. And ahead of the winner of the 2024 Wildlife Photographer of the Year being announced, the panel has released a preview of some of the highly commended images in this year’s competition.
The 60th edition of the contest received a record 59,228 entries from 117 countries and territories, according to the Natural History Museum in London. And some of the images released, which can be seen here and here, are some of the most beautiful animal stills you will ever see. They undoubtedly took the photographers a ton of patience to capture. And keep in mind … these were the non-winners.
My favorite is the mating lions. By the looks of it, you wouldn’t think they were mating and were instead arguing about what to have for dinner, but sometimes those things can be interchangeable.
The winners will be announced Oct. 8.
