Happy Friday from ERO Insider, and we hope those of you in the U.S. had a great Labor Day! We work hard and play hard, and our fearless correspondents were on the job this week delivering the news you need from around the world of electric reliability. So let’s take a look at what they’ve dug up!

NERC’s Standards Committee hosted its first-ever technical conference this week after an order from the ERO’s Board of Trustees last month aimed at addressing some of industry’s concerns about a proposed standard on inverter-based resources. Holden Mann was listening, and he’s got a look at some of the issues raised during the discussions. (See NERC, Industry Discuss IBR Issues in Technical Conference.)

Stakeholders joined WECC this week to discuss the challenges of maintaining Western grid reliability in the face of increasing demand from large loads such as data centers. Henrik Nilsson has more from the webinar, including why attendees say collaboration is crucial. (See Collaboration Key to Managing Growing Western Load, Panelists Say.)

The Western Resource Adequacy Program could see its penalty phase delayed a year after a vote by its key stakeholder body last week. Join Robert Mullin inside for more on the group’s decision. (See WRAP Members Vote to Delay ‘Binding’ Phase to Summer 2027.)

The Northeast Power Coordinating Council has agreed to a settlement with New York State Electric and Gas in which the utility admitted to violating NERC’s requirements for backup control centers. Follow the link for details on the settlement approved by FERC last week. (See NPCC, NYSEG Agree to Settle Control Center Violation.)

That’s all for this week, but we’ll be watching all next week to bring you the latest updates from the ERO Enterprise and beyond, and we’ll be back on Friday with another weekly wrap-up. Until then, stay safe and have a great week!
