Clean generation developers set a record for the second quarter with 11 GW of installations, up 91% from the same period last year, according to the American Clean Power Association’s quarterly report released last week.


James Downing reported on that, and he also interviewed DNV consultants on the company’s HVDC Standards joint industry project, which has brought together several offshore companies to examine what standards are needed for HVDC transmission lines. 


Also last week, the Department of Energy announced $125 million in funding for two Energy Innovation Hubs at Argonne National Laboratory and Stanford University. John Cropley reported that the hubs are intended to accelerate development of storage technology beyond lithium-ion batteries, with a priority on the use of inexpensive and abundant materials. 


And John also reported this week on a DOE report on the potential to add up to 95 GW of new nuclear generation at existing and retired sites. Additional nuclear capacity could be added at retired coal-fired plants, according to the report.
