This past week’s standout story from NetZero Insider was John Cropley’s trip to Coeymans, N.Y., to see where Ørsted is building the components for the Sunrise Wind project. John took some fantastic pictures of the workers and construction site, along with, of course, comments from company and union officials.
James Downing had the big offshore wind news of the week though, with BOEM announcing it will conduct an energy lease sale on Oct. 29 for eight areas on the Outer Continental Shelf in the Gulf of Maine. The challenge for developers in the gulf is that its waters are so deep that any projects would have to use floating turbines.
And K Kaufmann covered a webinar by Advanced Energy United on whether virtual power plants could provide the same services and attributes as natural gas peaker plants. DOE estimates the U.S. will need to almost triple the VPP capacity on the grid by 2030 to meet federal emission-reduction targets.
