It is that time of the year again, as the Strong National Museum of Play has nominated its 12 finalists for its National Toy Hall of Fame.

The “toys” up for induction are: Apples to Apples, balloons, Choose Your Own Adventure gamebooks, Hess Toy Trucks, My Little Pony, Phase 10, the Pokémon Trading Card Game, remote-controlled vehicles, Sequence, stick horse, trampoline and Transformers. Some good choices, some head scratchers. Again, my biggest gripe from year to year is the definition of “toy.” I don’t see how balloons or a book classify as a toy. Also, board games are just that — games — and not a toy. You can’t take them outside and play with them in the dirt.

With that as my guide, I am left with only about six items to choose from. RC cars should be a shoo-in and are the best of this bunch by far, in my opinion. If I must choose three, I’ll throw in Transformers and trampolines. You can vote here, but time is running out, so be sure to make your pick today.
