When you feel like someone made these brush strokes already … | Shutterstock

I would assume most of the joy of being an archeologist comes from being the first person to find or uncover an object from the distant past. But what if that object basically tells you that you aren’t the first? Equally unjoyful?
A group of student archaeologists on a dig in northern France appear to be optimists as well, as they looked on the brighter side of things after they dug up a note saying the location had already been excavated. The note in a tiny bottle was from P.J. Feret declaring he had carried out excavations at the site in January 1825. Regardless, team leader Guillaume Blondel called the discovery a “magical moment” … discovering what someone else discovered already.
The new excavation has uncovered several pieces of pottery from around 2,000 years ago, so Feret must have missed some things. I guess there is always something left to be discovered!
Now, see what news RTO Insider dug up today.
