Happy Friday from ERO Insider! It seems like déjà vu, but we’re coming at you on the heels of another major storm. Barely two weeks after Hurricane Helene drove through Georgia and the Carolinas, Hurricane Milton struck Florida on Wednesday, knocking out power to more than 3 million customers and killing at least six people. We send our best wishes to those working to restore essential services in the affected areas and to everyone affected by the storm!
Last week saw the long-awaited passage of NERC’s new reliability standard regarding ride-through requirements for inverter-based resources. Holden Mann has more on the industry ballot for the new standard and the unusual path that it’s taken to get here. (See IBR Ride-through Standard Passes Industry Ballot.)
However, that’s not all for NERC’s work on IBRs: The ERO has more standards due to FERC next year, and it’s planning to examine its work on the most recent set of standards to see how it can avoid potential pitfalls with the next ones. Click through for more details from the Board of Trustees’ meeting this week. (See NERC Examining Lessons from IBR Standard Development.)
This week also brought SERC’s Fall Reliability and Security Seminar, which featured a presentation on some of the challenges the ERO can expect as the nation’s electric utilities adopt cloud computing for their work. Follow the link for more. (See SERC Speaker Warns of Challenges in Cloud Transition.)
That’s going to do it for now! Thanks so much for joining us, and please keep coming back for the latest news throughout the week. Stay safe, have a good weekend, and we’ll be back again next Friday with more updates from the world of electric reliability!
