NetZero Insider checked in on two conferences in the Washington, D.C. area this past week, as well as detailed some new reports from RMI and the New York Power Authority.

K Kaufmann was at the Maryland Clean Energy Summit, where moderator Jason Stanek claimed Maryland was a state “where transmission has come to die.” Stanek provided an overview of the state’s dilemma as it seeks to cut its greenhouse gas emissions.

James Downing was also in attendance at the American Clean Power Association when FERC Commissioner David Rosner told members that one of his main goals as a regulator is to successfully manage the energy industry’s transition

James also detailed a report from RMI and the Virtual Power Plant Partnership that said virtual power plants can help the power grid deal with some of its most pressing issues, such as meeting rising demand and helping integrate more renewables in an affordable way.

In other news, the New York Power Authority issued a draft of its first Renewables Strategic Plan, which lays out 40 potential projects, 30 of which would be collaborations with private sector entities. John Cropley supplied the details.
