For those of you who can’t help but stare at the sky at night, I hope you enjoyed the show last night and this morning.

The third of four supermoons reached its lunar maximum at 7:26 a.m. ET today when it filled the sky from about 222,055 miles away – the closest it will be to Earth this year. I made sure my kids came out with me to gaze for a few minutes while I walked the dogs. If you are into Moon nicknames, it also is this year’s Hunter’s moon (along with a few others). If you can’t catch this one, there will be another Nov. 15. 

But that’s not all. The Tsuchinshan-ATLAS comet also is around this month and made it closest pass to Earth this past weekend. It can be seen after twilight in the western sky by the constellation Virgo. This one you should catch if you can, since it won’t be this way again for another 80,000 years.
