Hello again from ERO Insider, your source for the latest from the wide world of electric reliability! Halloween is next Thursday and spooky season is in full effect, but we’re hoping our news this week won’t be too scary. Pull up a chair and join us for this week’s slate of stories while you work on your jack-o-lantern!
We’ve been in Minneapolis this week for the annual GridSecCon security conference, which at times seemed like a firehose of information on the risks facing the electric grid. Holden Mann’s here with highlights and insights from the grid’s leading security experts on the rise of artificial intelligence. (See GridSecCon Speakers Cite Threats, Opportunities of AI.)
Weather also was a thread at the conference, which might seem unusual at first — but speakers were clear there’s plenty of reason to see the changing climate as a security risk. Follow the link for more from the experts. (See Weather-Security Connections Highlighted at GridSecCon.)
Speaking of security risks, government agencies including the FBI, National Security Agency, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, and their overseas counterparts issued a warning last week about Iran’s cyber activities in multiple critical infrastructure sectors. Click through for the details. (See Agencies Describe a Year of Iran Cyber Attacks.)
Also last week, the U.S. Department of Energy announced $2 billion in investments to improve grid reliability and resilience. Join K Kaufmann inside for more on the grants and where the money’s going. (See New IIJA Funding Targets Grid Resilience and Demand Growth.)
That’s going to be it for this week, but we’ll be back next week with more stories from around the ERO Enterprise and beyond. Keep checking throughout the week, and for those of you planning on trick-or-treating, have a safe holiday!
