Back in the day, powerful cars with loud mufflers were a symbol of coolness. Now, despite my efforts to not become an old head who screams “get off my lawn,” they may be one of the most annoying things I’ve ever heard.

Not too far away from my home, the Montgomery County Council voted to approve a pilot program that will set up cameras with the intention of catching excessively loud cars. The council members said such noise pollution has “harmful physical and mental health impacts.”

The cameras will be set to record vehicles that reach at least 85 decibels. Now if they want to beat that case, they’ll have to defeat two senses (sight and sound) instead of just one (speed trap picture). Good luck.
