You’re looking at a lot of money … in baseball form. | Goldin

October 24, 2024

I don’t care if you don’t like baseball and have been living in a cave on Pluto, I’d bet you still know who Shohei Ohtani is. I’m so confident, I’m not even going to embed a link.

This year, the Japanese sensation became the first player in MLB history to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in the same season (only five others have gone 40/40). The history-making 50th home run ball also “was like winning the lottery” for whoever caught it, as plenty of people will fork over mountains of money for a piece of baseball history. The 50/50 ball just sold for $4.4 million at auction — besting the previous mark for a baseball by more than $1 million. Not to mention that ball — Mark McGwire’s 70th home run – is relatively worthless today.

If I had the pick to own any ball in history, it would be this one in Emmitt Smith’s left hand. Not sure Emmitt is willing to part with it, though. Or that I have enough money to buy it.

This RTO Insider news cost you significantly less than the baseball.
