I think it is fair to say that those who resort to illegal acts tend to get caught from their own mistakes rather than superior detective work. And these Californians help prove my point.
Four Los Angeles residents were arrested last week after an investigation by the California Department of Insurance revealed they used a life-sized bear costume to stage attacks on their vehicles to receive insurance payouts. The suspects — who filed multiple claims using the same time and location — said a bear entered their cars and caused damage to the interior. Here is where the mistakes start to pile up.
First, multiple claims from the same time and location? A bear is going to open (suspiciously unlocked) doors to three high-profile vehicles in a matter of minutes? C’mon now. Second, one video shows a brown bear quickly opening the door before rummaging around and slashing the front seats. The problems: There are no brown bears in California, and if you’ve ever seen a bear in the wild, they don’t “rummage” that quick. The whole situation should have looked more like this. Lastly, why even include a video? It only supplied more evidence to scrutinize. In the end, “The Man” got the bear.
Now, instead of committing insurance fraud, just check out today’s RTO Insider news.
