Buying your true love all the gifts mentioned in “The Twelve Days of Christmas” would be super romantic … and super expensive.
According to the 40th annual PNC Christmas Price Index, purchasing all 12 gifts mentioned in the Christmas carol would cost $49,263. That is a stark contrast from 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic, when the gifts would have totaled just $16,168. I don’t spend anywhere near $50,000 on Christmas gifts (I hope no one does unless they are filthy rich), and I have like four families, so dropping 50 grand on one person is pretty much out of the question (unless I was filthy rich).
Of the 12 items mentioned, five remained unchanged from last year. The two turtle doves, four calling birds, five golden rings, seven swans a-swimming and eight maids a-milking all held at the same price, while the pear tree saw the biggest jump at 16%. With all due respect, who wants one of those anyway?
